Wall Street Analysts Downgrade Arbitron Stock

A pair of Wall Street analysts on Wednesday (Nov. 19) downgraded Arbitron stock following the announcement from The Nielsen Company Tuesday (Nov. 18) it would measure audiences for Cumulus in 50 small markets. Clear Channel also signed a contract to have its stations in 17 of those markets measured. Still, the analysts see Arbitron as a good investment.

Arbitron to 'Protect' Measurement Business

In a tense 25 minutes conference call, Arbitron executives told analysts Tuesday evening (Nov. 18) that the move by Cumulus and Clear Channel away from its long-established radio measuring company to the freshly launched Nielsen Radio Research would cost it nearly $10 million in revenue during the first year.

Nielsen Tunes In to Radio Measurement

Seven months after Cumulus invited qualified vendors to submit proposals to conduct a new audience measurement service in 50 small markets, the radio group announced Monday (Nov. 18) that The Nielsen Company has been selected to carry out the task. At the same time, Clear Channel has signed with Nielsen to take the service in 17 of the 50 markets where Cumulus will be measured.
